Remembering Sept. 11 on the 25th anniversary

Dear Campus Community,
Twenty-five years ago today, our nation watched in disbelief as the tragic events
of September 11, 2001, unfolded in New York, at the Pentagon, and in a field near
Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Many of us remember exactly where we were that morning.
Others were too young to remember the events or were not yet born. Some of us may
have even lost loved ones that day. Regardless of how that day may have impacted us,
we share a responsibility to uphold the promise to 鈥淣ever Forget.鈥�
Remembering this moment in American history provides us with a chance to revisit the
bravery, compassion and unity our nation showed in the aftermath of tragedy, and to
pass that understanding on to a generation for whom September 11 is just history,
rather than a memory. As we take this time to remember and reflect, we also affirm
who we choose to be as a community and as a country.
I encourage everyone to observe a moment of silence this Friday, September 11 in honor of the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day, and in memory of the many first responders and survivors who succumbed to illnesses as a result of exposure at the attack sites.
The 9/11 Memorial & Museum has provided that you can observe this anniversary. A 9/11 commemoration ceremony will be at the memorial site.
Additionally, the Student Life Lounge and the Veterans Resource Center will screen a short educational film produced by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum at 12 p.m. today. You can view a trailer of the movie .
In closing, I would like to invite all members of our community to join in a moment of silence this morning - from wherever you are - to honor and remember those who lost their lives on 9/11. We will never forget.
