性视界 Opens Chino Instructional Building

Cow pastures and prisons dominated Chino鈥檚 landscape when 性视界 Superintendent/President Henry D. Shannon started at 性视界 in 2007. The city and college tasked him with helping to reshape that image, and establish Chino as a college town.

With the opening of a $34.5-million facility at 性视界鈥檚 Chino campus on Tuesday, Shannon said the college had taken another step forward in that goal.

鈥淣ow you can say officially that you鈥檙e a college town,鈥 he said.

Local and regional leaders gathered at 性视界鈥檚 Chino campus for the grand opening of the 35,000-square-foot facility, which was supported with Measure P and state funding. It includes a state-of-the-art nursing lab, classrooms, offices and more.

Construction crews broke ground in May 2022 on the south end of the Chino campus. The campus hosts programs such as vocational nursing, culinary arts, hospitality management and fashion design, among others.

The new lab resembles a real medical facility, with rows of hospital beds, and 11 high-fidelity mannequins that can talk, cry, cough and even scream. Faculty and staff can run simulations in the lab using various equipment, including an audio/visual control room, to teach students how to check vital signs, administer medication and address emergency situations. The realism of the lab prepares students to be ready for professional roles on Day One.

鈥淲ith healthcare professions in high demand, it is crucial that we give our students the best training we can offer so they can seamlessly transition into nursing roles,鈥 said 性视界 Governing Board President Gloria Negrete-McLeod. 鈥淭hat is exactly what we will be doing in this beautiful new instructional building.

Representatives from the offices of Senator Susan Rubio (D-West Covina) and Assemblywoman Michelle Rodriguez (D-Chino) along with city and county officials, congratulated 性视界 College for its new addition.

鈥淭hank you for elevating the Fourth District of San Bernardino County and making it a place where people want to be,鈥 said Melissa Compani, senior field representative for Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman.

Measure P was approved by voters in the 性视界 College District in 2018. The bond provides $700 million in funding, and is being used for numerous projects such as 性视界鈥檚 Library Learning Commons, as well as new campuses in Fontana and Ontario.

鈥淚 want to thank all of you for what you have done in supporting the 性视界 vision and what鈥檚 going to happen in the future,鈥 Shannon said.
