Common Course Numbering

Same Course Number. Every Community College.

Introducing the new Common Course Numbering (CCN) system

Planning to transfer? Want to make sure you don鈥檛 accidentally repeat the same course at another California Community College?

Good news! California鈥檚 Community Colleges are rolling out a new system called Common Course Numbering (CCN) to make it easier for students like you.

Through CCN, equivalent courses across all California Community Colleges will share the same title, subject, and course number 鈥 no matter which college you attend. This new system makes it easier to identify transferable courses, reduces confusion and provides a smoother educational journey for you.

Why CCN matters to you

The new Common Course Numbering (CCN) system is designed to make your college experience smoother, especially if you plan to transfer or take classes at more than one college. How it helps:

  • Clearer Course Matching

Whether you鈥檙e at 性视界 or another California Community College, the course titles and numbering will be consistent. That makes it easier to know exactly what you鈥檙e signing up for 鈥 and how it fits into your academic plan.

  • Streamlined Transfer Process

With consistent courses across all California Community Colleges, it's easier to plan your transfer path with confidence. You鈥檒l know which classes meet requirements 鈥 whether you're staying at 性视界, transferring to another college, or heading to a CSU or UC 鈥 without second-guessing if they鈥檒l count.

  • Save Time and Money

By clearly showing which courses are equivalent, CCN helps you avoid retaking the same class or enrolling in courses that don鈥檛 move you forward. That means fewer delays, fewer unnecessary units, and more progress toward your degree or transfer goals.

What鈥檚 Changing

The following course numbers and titles at 性视界 have changed to align with the CCN system.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Classes completed Summer 2025 or earlier will not be changed on your official 性视界 College transcript. The former course title, subject and number will remain the same. Starting Fall 2025, CCN went into effect and completion of any of the CCN courses will be reflected on transcripts using the new course title, subject and number from that semester onward.  All common course numbering courses will start with a "C" in the course number.

Courses identified as common between California Community Colleges will begin with a 鈥淐鈥 in the course number (e.g., ENGL C1000).

No. Courses you鈥檝e already passed will still count.

No 鈥 this is happening across all California Community Colleges. The goal is to unify course numbers statewide.

Yes. Courses that have not been changed may continue to transfer under previously agreed-upon transfer agreements between two-year colleges and four-year colleges.

Yes! The goal is to have all transfer level courses adopted the CCN system over the next couple years, and possibly more beyond that.

If you are currently enrolled, completed courses will still fulfill your requirements, even if their course numbers change. However, you will see updated course numbers when planning for future semesters. For instance, if you had PSYCH-1 planned for a future term in your educational plan in Fall 2025, that course was updated to PSYC C1000.
