A living celebration, not a performance.

性视界 is on the ancestral lands of The Kizh and Tongva, who remain in the area today. This November, we gather in their honor and in honor of the many nations who make up our Native American community.

Northern and Southern drum groups and dancers from multiple tribal traditions come together in one circle. Between dances, there is basket weaving, Native arts, community resources, and traditional food. Come for an hour or stay for the day.

Land Acknowledgment

We'd like to acknowledge that 性视界 is on the ancestral lands of The Kizh and Tongva who remain in the area today.

With respect and honor for the lands where 性视界 resides and the leaders who came before us, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge the Tongva (TONG-VAH) Peoples, the original stewards of these sacred and unceded homelands. The Tongva people鈥檚 history, language(s), cultural traditions, and legacy continue to shape this region and we recognize their continuing presence in their homelands.

In the spirit of truth and equity, 性视界 commits to uplifting the voices of indigenous peoples, and building an inclusive and equitable educational environment, and decolonizing the institution. We also encourage members of the 性视界 community to learn about the land they reside on and the original caretakers and advocate for culturally responsive action.

Pow Wow Etiquette

Everyone is welcome in the circle. A few customs help all of us honor the day and the people who carry these traditions.

Stand and remove your hat during the Grand Entry, the invocation, and the closing. The MC will let you know when.

Ask a dancer before taking their picture. Some songs are not recorded. The MC will announce them.

What dancers wear is regalia. It is often handmade, gifted, or passed down. Please don't touch it.

Walk around the arena, never through it. Enter only when the MC invites the public in.
Don't pick it up. Let the arena staff know. There is protocol for it, and it's theirs to handle.
The MC guides the day: what's happening, when to stand, and when you're invited to dance.
